Welcome to the Floo Network homepage.
Happy Harry Potter Day! erm... Month? heck... Year!
The past few months have given us such a flurry of Potter activity and emotions, I for one am still reeling. Hearing the conclusion of the story we've anticipated for so long has meant many things for many fans, but for most all of us it was powerful. Now here we are barely two and a half months later and already wondering what the future holds for the Potterdom.
At the Lexicon we are busier than we have ever been, incorporating the new and definitive Canon throughout the site, and working on special features to help us all continue enjoying this magical world! Jo may have finished writing the books, but the pleasure of experiencing them is far from over. Be sure to keep watch here and around the Floo Network sites for what we've been up to!
October is a special month in Harry's life and the Potter world. How especially appropriate that The Boy Who Lived is featured as Wizard of the Month on Jo's official site. Here's wishing you a magical October this year! and that you continue to enjoy the magic for a long time to come.

A glimpse into the future
Here at the Floo Network headquarters, we've been working behind the scenes on a new layout. Yay! I hear you cry.
Yes, this one is getting quite tired, its been around a long time. It has served us well, providing a simple text based format for bringing you instant access to Floo Network information. But its time for a change.
We still have some work to do, and it may take a couple of months, especially given the events over the past month. So as a special treat, how about a glimpse into the future?
Sneak peek at coming features!
The National Braille Press is magically making Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows available in braille the same time as the print edition! Jo and Scholastic have done their part to make this happen. Even though it costs over $50 to make one copy in braille, the NBP is committed to providing them at the normal cost of a print version. In order to do this, the extra cost must be covered with donations. Please support this worthy cause if you are able.
More information can be found here: HP7 yahoo group, where you can discuss and ask questions. They'd love to hear from you if you are in the Boston area and can volunteer time to help make these books!
Money donations can be made here:

Now at the HP Lexicon.... The Canon Portkey!
We've cast the Portus spell on the Lexicon allowing it to transport you deep into the canon. This tool will have many uses:
- helping locate passsages in the books
- creating lists of related events, characters, topics or themes
- pulling together all the Lexicon's resources about a specific event
- connecting the non-book canon to the stories
- letting YOU set tags for searching through the canon and marking your favorites
- and many many more! (probably some that we haven't discovered yet!)
What it does NOT do:
- It does not search the texts of the books. An electronic version of the books would be illegal to create, and something we would never do.
- It does not search the Lexicon. That's what our Remembrall is for.
The Canon Portkey is not finished, there is still a formidable amount of data to be entered, but we've launched it in Beta for you to test out. Please have a look! Register an account and help us add tags! Give us feedback! and most of all... let us know want uses you find for this versatile new tool.

The Snippet Search ~
"How well do you know JKRowling.com?
Pretty Well?.....Think Again."
Each month we will post three little
“snippets”, tiny screenshot images, from Jo Rowling’s official website, www.jkrowling.com Your challenge is to scour the pages
of Jo’s site, searching for the exact location the snippet can be found.
Some will be easy, and some will be difficult to find… but all will be
visible somewhere on the current interactive flash version of her site.
(Not the Text only version, because it has no pictures, obviously!)
None will be from previous versions that are no longer visible, such as
“behind the door”. Once you’ve found the exact location of all 3
snippets, send us an email with your answers. Be sure your answers are descriptive enough for
us to determine that you've truly found it.
For example:
“On the desktop” would not be an
acceptable answer here. It should read something like, “On the desktop,
below the keyboard and above the Rubber eraser Portkey".

~ Magical
Recipes ~
''To put the charm back in those
old recipes!''
Mock Pumpkin Juice
Since pumpkins don't really give juice, and cooked pumpkin is rather thick and well… mushy, here is my muggle substitute. Most of the other recipes I've found use orange juice or orange colored/flavored drinks to try and simulate pumpkin, but I think they are just too citrusy. The pumpkin pie spices in this one blend well with the apple, and bring to mind pumpkin pie, and the ginger in the soda helps too.
1 part apricot nectar
2 parts apple juice or cider
1 part ginger ale
pumpkin pie spice to taste (premixed or cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice)
This recipe can be mixed in any size batch, from a single serving to a pitcher to a full cauldron.
Chill all ingredients beforehand and mix together in serving container, adding ginger ale right before serving.
For best flavor, add the spice to the apple juice or cider and chill overnight (about a half teaspoon per half gallon). This allows the flavor to infuse, and you can pour the juice off the top, leaving the sediment behind if preferred.
Ratio can be adjusted to taste, or according to the size containers on hand. A can of nectar, gallon of cider and bottle of ginger ale work perfect in a punch bowl. The apricot nectar provides a nice orange color and body to the punch. (Found in the juice aisle at the grocery store). You might just believe it is pumpkin!
